During the Academic Year 2020-2021, the Humanities and Fine Arts Division underwent a major curriculum overhaul; we merged the English and Communications programs and created “Writing and Communication Arts,” a dynamic degree track that artfully blends literary studies (literature), communications, and research and professional writing.
One of the core courses for the new WAC program is “Reading the World,” a course of my design that I envisioned as an introduction to rhetoric and cultural studies, a foundational course for critical/textual inquiry. I taught the very first version of the course in the fall of 2021.
The syllabus linked here is the most recent version of the course (fall 2023). While the central tenets of the course remain mostly unchanged, I have been carefully updating and improving the course. Most significantly, I have been diligently laboring toward a truly hybrid approach to course design: balancing online and in-person delivery.

ENG 220 Fall 2022 Assessment Report (Permission required; email skapica@keuka.edu for access)
Each year, for the HFA program assessment and review of the Writing and Communication Arts program, I compile an assessment report of ENG 220 that focuses on a “signature assignment.” Additional materials and samples are linked to the report.
